Sycil Mathai is part of various directions of contemporary and experimental chamber music in New York City. His career has intersected on stage with Stevie Wonder, Wynton Marsalis, Boyz II Men, Meryl Streep, and Ban Ki-moon. From classical to experimental genres, his work spans ensembles like the Knights Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St.Lukes, Argento New Music, American Composers Orchestra, Orchestra of the League of Composers, American Symphony Orchestra, Extension Ensemble, Ne(x)tworks, artists Carter Burwell, Butch Morris, the dance companies of Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris Dance Group, Nai-Ni Chen, and movie directors Andy Kaufman, and The Coen Brothers. He has recorded for RCA, PBS, CBS, EA Sports, Summit Brass, Albany Records, New World, and Sirius Satellite Radio. Sycil is a graduate of Juilliard as a student of Mark Gould, and of Texas Christian University as a student of Steve Weger. Recent engagements include a solo appearance at Ravinia Music Festival with the Knights Chamber Orchestra, and serving as Guest Principal Trumpet with the Saint Paul Camber Orchestra during the 2013-2014 season.
